About Kathleen

Bio

Kathleen Paris is a mama, bodywork practitioner, childbirth educator and birth doula serving emerging mothers and growing families in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1995.  She has attended births in hospitals, private homes, and birth centers, helping hundreds of pregnant women and their families create a safe, nurturing environment for their birth experience to unfold.

Her work invites each woman to trust in her own body’s ability to give birth as she chooses, safely, and with intention, while facilitating a family-centered birth. Her practice weaves together a profound spiritual appreciation for the journey into motherhood with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and techniques for self-care and body awareness.

She offers various modalities of bodywork to mothers and others ~ specializing in pregnancy massage, as well as massage for clients who are undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment. She offers compassionate, gentle touch and support for clients on bed rest or post surgery.

Kathleen currently lives in the East Bay with her wonderful husband and beguiling young daughter.

After a traveling hiatus from 1999 through 2002, Kathleen resumed her doula practice incorporating massage into her repertoire.  She received her certification as a massage therapist in 2003 from the Institute of Conscious Bodywork in Marin. She also worked as a birth doula with the Birth Doulas of Marin collective from 2005 to 2006.

In 2007, she co-founded the Birthing Ourselves Collective, which promotes consciousness based, community focused classes for individuals and families on the path from pre-conception to early parenting.  Kathleen also facilitates private childbirth classes, blessing-ways, baby welcoming ceremonies, and rituals to honor life transitions and pregnancy loss.
